5 Palestinians Killed, Dozens Injured, Missing as Damaged Residential Building Collapses in Gaza
Gaza September 16 (QNA) - Five Palestinians, including children, were martyred at dawn on Wednesday, and dozens were injured by the collapse of a residential building subjected to Israeli bombardment, inhabited by dozens of displaced Palestinians in Gaza City.
Medical sources at Al-Shifa Hospital stated that about 15 Palestinians were injured, and a large number of other civilians were missing following the collapse of a residential building in the Al-Sina’a area, southwest of Gaza City.
A source in the Palestinian Civil Defense told the Qatar News Agency (QNA) that dozens of people are displaced as a result of the collapse of a residential building that was damaged in a previous Israeli attack.
The source said that the civil defense crews, in cooperation with the crews of the Gaza Municipality, have been trying hard for hours to rescue the displaced people who are trapped under the rubble of the 6-storey building. It is estimated that more than 60 people were injured or missing.
He pointed to the difficulty of the work of the field crews who rushed to the place to locate and rescue the displaced under the rubble of the building, due to the lack of resources, which were destroyed by Israeli shelling and targeting.
The source pointed out that the needs of displaced Palestinians and families whose homes were destroyed during the war prompted many families to live in war-damaged buildings and houses that have a high risk of collapse, due to the limited shelters.
The Israeli war on the Gaza Strip since Oct. 7, 2023, has destroyed more than 90 percent of residential buildings and facilities in the Gaza Strip, according to official reports. The occupation forcibly controls more than 70 percent of the Gaza Strip and prevents residents and displaced persons from returning to it. (QNA)
