Doha, September 16 (QNA) - The 12th Qatar Patient Safety Week will get underway Thursday under the slogan "Safe Care for Life!".

Organized by the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH), the week-long initiative will focus on the theme "Safe Care for Non-Communicable Diseases," highlighting patient safety risks and preventable harm associated with non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and promoting integrated, person-centered and multidisciplinary care informed by behavioral insights.

The initiative aims to strengthen the safety, quality, continuity and effectiveness of healthcare, while empowering patients, families, caregivers, healthcare professionals and other stakeholders to play an active role in delivering safe care. It will also promote shared decision-making, diagnostic safety and medication safety.

Qatar Patient Safety Week targets patients and caregivers, healthcare practitioners, healthcare facility managers, policymakers and healthcare leaders, as well as civil society organizations. It encourages informed participation, adherence to treatment plans, effective communication, medication safety and accurate diagnosis, while supporting the development of reliable healthcare systems and the monitoring of patient safety indicators.

Throughout the week, the MoPH will organize a range of awareness activities and events, including the dissemination of patient safety messages through its digital platforms and a media campaign across various communication channels. An awareness event will also be held at the Ministry’s headquarters for employees, visitors and healthcare sector professionals.

The program will also include virtual awareness sessions and webinars for healthcare professionals and members of the public. Healthcare facilities across Qatar will participate by organizing educational and awareness activities for staff, patients and visitors, contributing to the promotion of a culture of quality and patient safety across healthcare institutions.

Qatar Patient Safety Week is an annual national initiative launched by the MoPH in 2014 through its Healthcare Quality Department. It aims to promote healthcare quality and patient safety among healthcare professionals and service users, while fostering sustainable collaboration among the Ministry, healthcare providers and patients to help ensure safer healthcare in the State of Qatar.
