Japanese Nikkei Closes Up 0.43 Percent

Yokyo, November 12 (QNA) - The Japanese Nikkei 225 index closed up 0.43 percent on Wednesday, after SoftBank Group trimmed its losses, while Sony Group helped the broader TOPIX index close at a new high thanks to strong full-year earnings forecasts.
The Nikkei ended the day at 51,063.31 after volatile trade, and the broader Topix jumped 1.14 percent to close at a record high of 3,359.33.
Meanwhile, SoftBank's stock closed down 3.46 percent.
Heavily weighted chip-related stocks declined: shares of Advantest and Tokyo Electron fell 0.23 percent and 1.55 percent, respectively.
The stock of TDK Corporation (electronic components maker) jumped 4.92 percent, becoming the biggest contributor to the Nikkei's gains, while drugmaker Chugai Pharmaceutical Co. rose 4.37 percent.
The share of Mitsui Kinzoku, a maker of AI data center materials, surged 23.27 percent, and Sony rose 3.67 percent.
Bank shares also rose: shares of Mitsubishi Financial Group and Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group gained 3.38 percent and 1.95 percent, respectively.
Of more than 1,600 stocks trading on the Tokyo Stock Exchange's prime market, 78 percent rose, 19 percent fell, and 2 percent traded flat. (QNA)
