FIFA U-17 World Cup Qatar 2026 Draw Places Qatar at Top of Group A
Zurich, May 21 (QNA) - The draw for the FIFA U-17 World Cup Qatar 2026, held on Wednesday, placed hosts Qatar at the head of Group A alongside Egypt, Panama, and Greece.
Doha will host the tournament for the second consecutive time from Nov. 19 to Dec. 13. Qatar has been awarded hosting rights for five editions through 2029. The 2025 edition, held last year, marked a historic milestone as the first U-17 World Cup to feature 48 teams under the expanded format.
The draw, conducted at FIFA headquarters in Zurich, produced balanced groups. Group B includes South Korea, one of the two remaining CAF qualifiers (CAF 1), New Caledonia, and Ecuador. Group C features Argentina, Australia, CAF 2, and Denmark, while Group D includes France, Haiti, Saudi Arabia, and Uruguay.
Group E consists of Italy, Jamaica, Cote d'Ivoire, and Uzbekistan, while Group F includes Senegal, Croatia, Cuba, and Tajikistan. Group G comprises Mali, New Zealand, Belgium, and Vietnam.
Group H includes Spain, China, Fiji, and Morocco, while Group I features Brazil, Republic of Ireland, Tanzania, and Costa Rica. Group J brings together the United States, Montenegro, Chile, and Algeria. Group K consists of Mexico, Romania, Cameroon, and Venezuela, while Group L includes Japan, Colombia, Serbia, and Honduras.
Under the tournament format, 48 teams are divided into 12 groups of four teams each. The top two teams from each group, along with the eight best third-placed teams, will advance to the Round of 32, which will be played in a knockout format through to the final.
The final is scheduled for December 13 at Khalifa International Stadium, which hosted the previous edition's final, where Portugal defeated Austria 1–0 in front of a crowd of 38,901 spectators.
Matches will be held across Aspire Zone, which will once again serve as a central hub for sporting and fan activities following its successful role in the previous edition. (QNA)
