Washington, August 22 (QNA) - Meta Platforms on Tuesday launched the web version of its new text-first social media platform Threads, in a bid to retain professional users and gain an edge over rival X, formerly Twitter.
Threads' users will now be able to access the microblogging platform by logging in to its website from their computers, the Facebook and Instagram owner said. Meta says it will add more functionality in the coming weeks as it seeks to make the web and mobile experience of the app the same.
Threads raced to more than 100 million users in the week following its launch but by the end of July that figure had more than halved. The tech giant, which also owns Facebook and WhatsApp, will hope this announcement will help reverse that trend. And, at the time of its launch, it seemed Threads was indeed on its way to giving X a run for its money. But, alas, it could never quite catch its tail. Even with many users turning their back on X after becoming disenchanted with how it was run under Musk, the platform still has around 350 million users. (QNA)
