Doha, November 21 (QNA) - Cody Gakpo and Davy Klaassen struck late to earn the Netherlands a 2-0 win over Senegal in their Group A opener today at Al Thumama Stadium.

The sides had struggled to break the deadlock, with the Dutch failing to produce an effort on target from seven attempts.

Senegal, without injured Sadio Mane, went close in response through Bamba Dieng but Klaassen slotted an injury-time second to seal the points.

"It was a difficult game and we were not careful with the ball," said Cody Gakpo. "I think we can do a lot better but the victory obviously gives us a good feeling." "We were clearly in search of a goal and eventually we got it," he added. (QNA)
