Tokyo, September 08 (QNA) - Japanese shares fell sharply on Tuesday, as renewed geopolitical tensions dampened risk sentiment and a sudden surge in the yen weighed negatively on exporters.

On the Topix, shares of glass makers and transportation equipment companies were the biggest decliners, falling 4.44 percent and 4.14 percent, respectively.

Alps Alpine fell 8.29 percent, while Okuma declined 7.99 percent. (QNA)
