Tokyo, September 07 (QNA) - Japan's Nikkei share average closed more than 2 percent higher on Monday, supported by chip and AI-related stocks, following gains in US semiconductor shares.
The Nikkei rose 2.12 percent to 66,399.84, its highest closing level since Aug. 28, while the broader Topix index rose 0.55 percent to 4,125.8.
Shares of Advantest and Tokyo Electron rose more than 4 percent each, while technology investor SoftBank Group jumped 11.22 percent, memory maker Kioxia rose 9.31 percent, and Kokusai Electric gained 7.64 percent.
Meanwhile, shares of camera and audio equipment maker Sony Group fell 2.7 percent. Bank shares declined, with Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group and Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group falling 1.96 percent and 1.51 percent, respectively. (QNA)
