Beijing, September 06 (QNA) - The death toll from floods and mudslides that swept through border regions between Nepal and China has risen to 1,387.
Chinese authorities announced today that the death toll rose to 43 with 519 people missing in the Tibet region, bringing the total number of fatalities from the disaster to 1,387.
Local authorities in Nepal announced Saturday that 1,344 people were killed by the floods, while 4,898 others remain missing, noting that 2,232 DNA samples have been collected to help identify the victims.
An avalanche previously triggered a torrent of ice, rocks, and mud through the Trishuli River in the border region between Nepal and China on Aug. 26, sweeping away and destroying numerous towns and villages while causing widespread damage to roads and infrastructure. (QNA)
