Beijing, September 4 (QNA) - Qatar's Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2026 Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) Beach Volleyball Championship, currently underway in Shangluo, China, after defeating Kazakhstan's Bogatov and Gurin in straight sets in the round of 16.
The Qatari duo secured a comfortable 2-0 victory, winning 21-12 and 21-13.
Younousse and Tijan had reached the round of 16 after topping Group B with a perfect record, securing three consecutive victories over Malaysia's Teh Wei Yong Jian, New Zealand's Sam and Ben O'Dea, and Thailand's Nititorn and Purawit.
The Qatari pair will face China's Wang and Du in the quarterfinals on Saturday at 5am Doha time.
Younousse and Tijan will continue their campaign with their sights set on the title and on strengthening their chances of securing qualification for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
The duo boast an impressive record of international achievements, including a bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and a fourth-place finish at Paris 2024. They have also won three Asian titles and two gold medals at the Asian Games, in addition to claiming gold at the Sanya 2026 Asian Beach Games in April. (QNA)
