London, September 04 (QNA) - The State of Qatar deposited its instrument of accession to Annex VI of the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL 73/78) under the 1997 Protocol.
This came during a meeting between HE Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the United Kingdom and Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Sheikh Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Saud Al-Thani, and HE Secretary-General of IMO Arsenio Antonio Dominguez, at the organization's headquarters in London.
During the meeting, they discussed the importance of the State of Qatar's accession to Annex VI and its role in supporting international efforts aimed at reducing air pollution from ships and enhancing the protection of the marine environment.
They also addressed aspects of cooperation between the State of Qatar and the IMO and ways to enhance and develop them, in addition to exchanging views on a number of topics of mutual interest in the field of maritime transport.
They also touched upon current regional developments in the Strait of Hormuz in light of ongoing updates in the region and their impact on navigation, maritime transport, and supply chains, emphasizing the importance of ensuring the safety and continuity of maritime navigation and international trade through vital waterways in accordance with the provisions of international law.
