Warsaw, September 27 (QNA) - Spain were crowned champions of the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup after defeating North Korea 4-3 on penalty shootout following a goalless draw in the final, which concluded in Poland on Saturday.

The title is Spain's second in the history of the competition, following their triumph in 2022.

North Korea entered the final seeking to retain the title they won in Colombia in 2024 and further strengthen their historic record in FIFA women's youth competitions. Spain, however, denied them the opportunity to achieve either objective.

Spain now sit second in the all-time list of U-20 Women's World Cup winners with two titles, behind the United States, Germany and North Korea, who have each won the tournament three times.

Spain produced a strong campaign on their way to a second world title. They opened the group stage with a 2-0 victory over Nigeria before thrashing New Caledonia 11-0 and defeating China 3-1.

In the Round of 16, Spain overcame Portugal 2-0 before edging Brazil 1-0 in the quarter-finals. They then secured a 2-0 victory over Italy in the semi-finals to book their place in the final.

After a goalless 90 minutes against North Korea, Spain prevailed in the penalty shootout to lift the trophy for the second time in their history. (QNA)
