Geneva, September 25 (QNA) - The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) reported Friday an alarming rise in acute malnutrition cases among Yemeni children, highlighting that severe cases are worsening due to restricted access to healthcare and treatment centers.

UNICEF Representative in Yemen Akhil Iyer warned that mobile nutrition teams screening nearly 2,900 children in accessible areas found over a quarter suffering from acute malnutrition, with 200 categorized under the most dangerous severe form.

UNICEF noted that approximately 71,000 children were displaced over the past three weeks, driving daily increases in malnutrition cases across displacement sites.

The organization cautioned that these figures represent only a partial picture, projecting that 2.2 million children under age five in Yemen will suffer from acute malnutrition this year, including over half a million facing severe acute malnutrition. (QNA)
