New York, September 25 (QNA) - The State of Qatar has called for stronger international cooperation to mobilize additional financing for development, amid rising debt, conflicts, climate pressures and tighter financial conditions.

Qatar hosted a high-level event on financing for development on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly in New York, through the Qatar Fund for Development and in partnership with Canada, Norway, the World Bank Group, the Inter-American Development Bank Group, the UN Development Program and the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean.

HE Minister of State for International Cooperation Dr Maryam bint Ali Al Misnad said the international development landscape was facing growing pressures that were making it harder for countries to invest in their people and future.

She said the need for investment in education, healthcare, infrastructure and job creation had never been greater.

International cooperation and development assistance are key pillars of Qatar's foreign policy, HE Al Misnad said, reflecting the country's emphasis on solidarity, shared responsibility and collective action in addressing global challenges.

She added that sustainable development was essential to building more peaceful, stable and prosperous societies, with people and their dignity at the center of development efforts.

HE Al Misnad said traditional development assistance remained important but could not, on its own, meet the scale of current challenges.

She called for closer cooperation among governments, development banks, international organizations and the private sector to mobilize additional resources for development.

The minister said Qatar hoped the event would help identify practical opportunities for cooperation, mobilize additional financing and turn shared development commitments into concrete action. (QNA)
