New York, September 24 (QNA) - The State of Qatar participated on Thursday in a ministerial meeting of the UN Economic and Social Council's (ECOSOC) Ad Hoc Advisory Group on Haiti, held on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 81) in New York.

HE Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Saleh Al Khulaifi represented the State of Qatar at the meeting.

In his address, HE Al Khulaifi reaffirmed Qatar's steadfast commitment to Haiti's security, stability, and prosperity, stressing that the situation in the country is of critical importance not only to the region but also to global peace and security.

He expressed concern over the multidimensional crisis facing the Haitian people, emphasizing that the country's future must be shaped by Haitian stakeholders, with the international community providing coordinated and sustained support, including efforts to ensure credible and inclusive elections.

His Excellency noted that the establishment of the multinational Gang Suppression Force (GSF) offers a cautious glimmer of hope for improved security conditions. He highlighted Qatar's pledge of $30 million voluntary contribution to the UN trust fund supporting the Multinational Security Support Mission and the GSF, to be disbursed over three years. The first $10 million installment was transferred last June through the Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) to the UN Department of Operational Support, which manages the trust fund.

He noted the long-standing ties between Qatar and the people of Haiti and reaffirmed Qatar's continued support for the country as it works toward stability, recovery, and sustainable development. (QNA)
