Jeddah, September 23 (QNA) - Head coach of the Qatar national football team Julen Lopetegui affirmed that his squad aims to deliver its best performance at the 27th Gulf Cup in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, running through October 6.
Qatar kicks off its Group B campaign against defending champions Bahrain on Thursday at Prince Abdullah Al Faisal Sports City Stadium, in a group featuring the UAE and Yemen.
Speaking at a press conference, Lopetegui stated that preparations went smoothly, and the team is ready to meet its goals, noting that all participants have improved, making chances equal. 
Addressing the opener, Lopetegui acknowledged Bahrain's strength and recent head-to-head edge, but stressed that past records were history, emphasizing that the focus must remain on the upcoming match as the starting point toward the title.
He urged maximum effort to secure a strong start toward a title Qatar last won in 2014.
Goalkeeper Mahmoud Abunada echoed his coach, highlighting the tournament's special status and confirming player enthusiasm to compete at the highest level and advance far. (QNA)
