Secretary-General: GCC Strengthened Adaptation Capabilities, Solidifying Status as Global Investment Hub
New York, September 22 (QNA) - Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi affirmed Tuesday at a UNGA 81 panel that member states have built a strong economic foundation, cementing their position as a global investment destination and capital source.
Albudaiwi highlighted that the combined GCC economy stands at USD 2.4 trillion, with sovereign wealth funds exceeding USD 5 trillion, commercial bank assets near USD 3.9 trillion, and global merchandise trade reaching USD 1.6 trillion. These resources drive economic diversification across AI, clean energy, technology, logistics, and infrastructure.
In 2025, GCC Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) stock reached USD 792.7 billion, with intra-GCC investments accounting for USD 171.4 billion (nearly 22%), underscoring growing regional integration. Key projects including the Customs Union, Gulf Common Market, integrated payment systems, and GCC Railway enhance regional competitiveness and supply chain efficiency.
Albudaiwi stressed that GCC international partnerships now extend beyond traditional trade into technology transfer, advanced manufacturing, and food security. Leveraging their strategic location, logistics networks, and financial capacity, GCC states remain committed to long-term international collaboration and sustainable economic growth (QNA)
