Doha, September 22 (QNA) - As part of efforts to enhance cultural and artistic exchange and build bridges of creative communication among peoples, the Cultural Village Foundation (Katara)is hosting the 'Dialogue of Papers' exhibition in cooperation with Qatar Museums, featuring three artists from Qatar, Japan, and Indonesia.
Running for two weeks, the exhibition presents an artistic experience exploring the relationship between paper, cultural identity, and the local environment through creative works that combine natural fibers, handmade papermaking, calligraphy, and visual art. The works embody an artistic dialogue that transcends geographical and cultural boundaries.
The exhibition features works by Qatari artist Yousef Ahmad, Japanese artist Hayaki Nishigaki, and Indonesian artist Widi Pangestu, each presenting his own artistic vision inspired by his cultural and natural surroundings.
In this context, the curator of the exhibition Dr. Aisha Abdulla Al Misnad said that the project's central idea stems from the notion that paper is not merely a medium, but a material that carries the characteristics of the environment from which it is made, the knowledge of its maker, and the visual traditions of the artist who works with it. She added that the exhibition offers audiences an opportunity to discover how this cultural dialogue has evolved and acquired new meanings, highlighting the ability of art to create shared spaces for expression and human communication.
For his part, Qatari artist Yousef Ahmad explained that the exhibition embodies a shared artistic exploration with Japanese artist Hayaki Nishigaki, and Indonesian artist Widi Pangestu. He noted that the project began with a two-week art workshop held in Qatar, during which the artists brought natural materials from their respective countries, including Japanese washi paper, Indonesian mulberry fibers, and Qatari date-palm fronds. These materials were combined to create collaborative artworks reflecting the cultural identity of each country and bringing together Arabic, Japanese, and Indonesian calligraphy in a unique visual dialogue.
The 'Dialogue of Papers' exhibition represents a model of sustainable cultural collaboration championed by the Years of Culture initiative. It brings together two chapters of a single artistic project in Doha and gives audiences an opportunity to explore the evolution of the creative experience among the participating artists, as well as how paper has been transformed from an artistic medium into a space for dialogue among diverse environments, cultures, and visual traditions.
