Doha, September 02 (QNA) - The Moscow International Book Fair kicked off Wednesday, bringing together more than 300 publishing houses from Russia and other countries.
Running through Sept. 6, the event also features the participation of the State of Qatar, represented by the Ministry of Culture, as part of the ministry's commitment to raising the profile of Qatari culture on the global stage.
It broadly aims to showcase Qatari intellectual materials to a substantial audience, thereby underscoring the nation's stature as an incubator of creativity and a hub of diverse cultural and civilizational traditions.
Qatar's booth is distinctively adorned with the characteristics of traditional architecture, offering a multifaceted cultural experience, alongside handicrafts displayed on interactive screens and a calligrapher on hand to showcase the intricate beauty of Arabic calligraphy.
The Ministry is hosting panel discussions at the booth alongside a host of emerging Qatari publishing houses, as well as holding business meetings in the fields of translation, publishing and intellectual property rights, mainly with Russian and foreign publishing houses.
The move is part of the ministry's initiatives to support homegrown Qatari publishing houses and expand the publishing industry in Qatar.
The participation in this incredible cultural event embodies the State of Qatar's commitment to backing the publishing and knowledge movement, said Director of the Doha International Book Fair Jassim Ahmed Al Buainain.
He added that it intends to spotlight homegrown intellectual materials in the domains of literature, poetry, thought and arts, as well as promote Qatari culture on the international stage.
The event agenda comprises more than 400 interviews with key authors, showcases of updated publications, professional panel discussions and presentations of new works by a host of writers.
The expo places special emphasis on the future of publishing in the AI era, in addition to deepening and expanding international cooperation in the fields of books and publishing.
In addition, a robust program for children and families features a creative space, theatrical performances and workshops, including special activities designed to introduce visitors to Chinese culture, alongside appearances by children's authors presenting their latest books for the fall season.
