Baghdad, September 11 (QNA) - The Iraqi Ministry of Transport has discussed with Kyrgyz authorities ways to enhance cooperation in road transport and facilitate truck movement between the two countries, thereby strengthening Iraq's position as a trade corridor linking Central Asian nations to the Arabian Gulf region.

In a statement issued today, the Ministry noted that the discussions-held via video conference with the participation of relevant authorities-addressed the preparation of a comprehensive international agreement to regulate the transport of goods and passengers. This initiative aims to support transit traffic and expand the scope of cooperation within the road transport sector.

The meeting focused on facilitating the passage of Kyrgyz trucks through Iraqi territory toward Gulf states, as well as streamlining technical and customs procedures at border crossings to help reduce transit times and transport costs.

Both sides agreed that the Kyrgyz side would submit a draft of the comprehensive agreement on goods and passenger transport to the Iraqi side for review and discussion in upcoming meetings, paving the way for finalizing the official conclusion of the agreement. (QNA)
