Berlin Art Week 2026 Launches with Qatari Participation
Berlin, September 10 (QNA) - Berlin Art Week 2026 opened on Thursday with the exhibition "Handmade By- Part Two," featuring Qatar's Al Markhiya Gallery.
The gallery is showcasing selections from Qatari artist Bouthayna Al Muftah's series "Brushing Her Hair", which evokes social heritage, memory, and human bonds.
Al Markhiya Gallery Director Anas Kutit told Qatar News Agency (QNA) that presenting Al Muftah's works extends her international presence and highlights contemporary Qatari art, noting that her earlier appearance at Art Basel 2026 drew significant interest for bridging local memory with universal human dimensions.
He added that the featured series, inspired by traditional women's hair-braiding rituals, resonates deeply with the exhibition's thematic focus on threads as symbols of memory, connection, and generational continuity.
Al Muftah expressed pride in participating in Berlin Art Week, describing threads in her work as extensions of memory and tools to reinterpret local heritage through a global visual language.
A multidisciplinary artist and graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts in Qatar, Al Muftah's notable achievements include designing the official poster for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. (QNA)
