Sofia, August 08 (QNA) - Bulgaria summoned Ukraine's ambassador Saturday following the explosion of a drone near the Bulgaria-Romania border, close to a major gas pipeline.

A statement by the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry said a meeting was held between Bulgarian Foreign Minister Velislava Petrova-Chamova and the Ukrainian ambassador after the Bulgarian Defense Ministry reported that the drone in question was a decoy UAV widely used by the Ukrainian armed forces.

The Ministry added that there was currently no indication that the incident was intentional.

For its part, Ukraine emphasized that it didn't deliberately target Bulgaria, vowing to investigate the incident.

Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Georgii Tykhyi said Kyiv was in close contact with Bulgaria to clarify the circumstances, adding that the Ukrainian military hadn't deliberately directed any drone toward Bulgaria.

 However, he did not officially confirm whether the drone was Ukrainian.

Tykhyi assured that Kyiv is investigating the incident and is fully ready to cooperate with Sofia.

Bulgarian Prime Minister Rumen Radev announced earlier today that a drone had entered Bulgarian airspace earlier in the day and exploded near the border with Romania and the Trans-Balkan gas pipeline, which links Turkiye to Ukraine through the Balkans.

He said the drone exploded 1,000 meters from the gas pumping station of the Trans-Balkan pipeline, near the Kardam border crossing with Romania in northeastern Bulgaria, close to the Black Sea, adding that the incident caused no casualties. (QNA)
