Bahrain Denounces Attack on UAE Tanker While Transiting Strait of Hormuz
Manama, August 08 (QNA) - The Bahraini Ministry of Foreign Affairs has condemned in the strongest possible terms the Iranian attack with a projectile on an Emirati ADNOC oil tanker while traversing the Strait of Hormuz.
In a statement Saturday, the Ministry considered this assault a flagrant breach of international law, the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea and UN Security Council Resolution 2817, constituting a dangerous threat to maritime navigation and energy supplies.
The statement stressed that Bahrain stands in full solidarity with the UAE and backs it in all measures it takes to protect its sovereignty, security, stability and critical interests.
It also underlined the importance of the UN Security Council upholding its responsibilities and taking deterrent measures to safeguard the security and safety of maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz and vital waterways, in addition to compelling Iran to reopen the Strait and never attack commercial vessels.
