New York, August 07 (QNA) - The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) on Friday confirmed a limited improvement in the flow of essential supplies into the Gaza Strip recently, despite acknowledging that humanitarian needs remain immense as the population continues to rely heavily on humanitarian aid.
In data compiled by the UN Mechanism 2720, OCHA indicated a 33 percent increase in the volume of supplies that the UN and its partners were able to deliver to Gaza during July compared to June. This equates to 55,000 pallet loads of aid, or approximately 35,000 metric tons, or about 2,600 trucks, bringing supply levels close to those recorded before the regional escalation began at the end of February.
The office stated that food constituted about 60 percent of these supplies, followed by smaller quantities of shelter materials, water, sanitation and hygiene supplies, and medical supplies.
OCHA Despite these "positive" signs, humanitarian partners warned of continued restrictions on the types of supplies allowed into Gaza, stressing the need for more approvals to bring in engine oils and spare parts, as all humanitarian operations depend on vehicles and backup generators that require constant maintenance.
