Beirut, August 05 (QNA) - The seventh round of US-brokered Lebanese-Israeli negotiations continued in Rome, Italy, for the second day, focusing on issues tied to implementing the framework agreement the two sides signed on June 26.
Lebanese sources said the negotiations featured three synchronous, separate meetings covering the political, military and border tracks. 
On the border issue, the Lebanese delegation presented documents underpinning Beirut's position, tracing it from the Armistice Line through the Blue Line to the current realities on the ground.
On the military track, the talks focused on pilot areas, centering on the practical mechanism governing operations in the current trial zone of Western Zawtar in southern Lebanon, particularly given the presence of adjacent occupied villages. 
The discussions also explored broadening the scope of the arrangement to complete Israel's drawdown and expedite the deployment of the Lebanese military.
The sources added that the interlocutors addressed scheduling the next pilot areas, with Khiam and Bint Jbeil in southern Lebanon put forward as candidates. The Israeli side, however, neither endorsed nor repudiated the proposal.
On the political track, the two sides discussed the identity of the third party that would verify Israel's drawdown and the Lebanese military's deployment.
According to the sources, several countries have expressed readiness to assume the role, while consultations remain underway.
The Lebanese delegation reiterated its call to bring the situation onto an even keel by renewing the ceasefire and halting Israeli violations of Lebanese territory and airspace, while pushing for a diplomatic solution that would reopen the way for diplomatic efforts and return the parties to the negotiating table as the optimal off-ramp.
The current negotiating track began months ago with US State Department-sponsored rounds in Washington that culminated in the signing of the June 26 framework agreement.
The deal lays out a roadmap for an Israeli drawdown from occupied Lebanese territory and the deployment of the Lebanese Army. (QNA)
