Geneva, August 27 (QNA) - HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Office in Geneva Dr. Hend Abdulrahman Al Muftah participated today in the second edition of the Global Youth Summit for Change, organized by the Youth Center for Dialogue and Peace and the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) in Geneva.
In remarks during the summit, Her Excellency said the world was witnessing rapid transformations that are reshaping the political, economic and knowledge landscapes, while interconnected challenges such as conflicts, climate change, food security, technological development and social justice were creating a need for diverse ideas, intergenerational cooperation and meaningful youth participation, with young people serving as genuine partners in shaping the future.
Her Excellency noted that the State of Qatar, recognizing the significant role young people can play, has placed great emphasis on youth empowerment and capacity-building, promoting a culture of volunteerism and active citizenship, and supporting innovation and entrepreneurship, in line with Qatar National Vision 2030, particularly its human development pillar.
She affirmed that the State of Qatar believes young people have a pivotal role in addressing global challenges, highlighting that they were partners in climate action and sustainability through environmental initiatives and support for the transition to clean energy, and in peacebuilding through dialogue, discussion and reconciliation and by fostering a culture of understanding, and a driving force behind digital innovation and social entrepreneurship by developing practical, scalable solutions to social and environmental challenges.
Her Excellency highlighted the State of Qatar's commitment to translating this approach into practical initiatives through the Qatar Youth Delegates to the United Nations Programme, which has so far enabled 53 young men and women to represent the State of Qatar at international forums after receiving training in leadership, diplomacy and international affairs.
She noted that the Doha Forum: Youth Edition, organized by QatarDebate and the Doha Forum, serves as a leading platform connecting young people's voices with global policy discussions and giving them an opportunity to present their ideas and participate directly in discussions on key issues shaping the world's future.
Her Excellency noted that the 24th edition of the Doha Forum will be held on Dec. 5-6, 2026, under the theme Redefining Global Trust. The forum will examine the various dimensions of trust in the current global context while advancing discussions on the evolution of diplomacy and mediation, the role of trustworthy institutions and the importance of effective cooperation in addressing contemporary challenges. She also expressed her anticipation for meaningful youth participation in the Doha Forum: Youth Edition.
HE Qatar's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office in Geneva stressed that empowering young people means giving them trust, skills, space and opportunity, and shifting from talking about young people to talking with them, and from designing policies for them to designing policies with them. She expressed hope that the summit's deliberations would translate into tangible partnerships and initiatives that contribute to building a more peaceful, sustainable, just, and innovative world.
