Qatar U-19 Handball Team to Face Jordan in Asian Championship Quarterfinals
Amman, August 27 (QNA) - The Qatar U-19 handball team will face hosts Jordan on Friday in the quarterfinals of the 11th Asian Men's Youth Handball Championship, currently held in Amman, Jordan, through Aug. 31.
The tournament serves as a qualifier for the 2027 IHF Men's Youth World Championship, which will be hosted by North Macedonia.
Qatar advanced to the quarterfinals after finishing top of Group B with a perfect eight points. The team opened its campaign with a 30-22 victory over Saudi Arabia, followed by a 30-19 win against Kuwait, a 24-22 victory over Iran, and a 42-29 triumph over Syria.
Jordan, the host nation, secured its place in the quarterfinals after finishing fourth in Group A with two points. Its sole victory in the group stage came against India, whom it defeated 25-24.
Qatar will be looking to maintain its winning run and secure a place in the semifinals, while also keeping its hopes of qualifying for the 2027 World Championship and competing for the continental title alive.
The Qatari side will enter the quarterfinal clash with confidence following an impressive group-stage campaign, as it seeks to strengthen its position among Asia's leading youth handball teams. (QNA)
