Occupied Jerusalem, August 25 (QNA) - The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) stressed Tuesday that it is profoundly perturbed by the Israeli occupation forces' storming of the Qalandiya Training Centre in Jerusalem.

In a statement, UNRWA said these actions are unacceptable, adding that Israeli forces forcibly entered the center, escorted by more than 50 security personnel and using at least four armored vehicles.

The entry of armed security forces into a UN-run facility without the agency's permission and consent is unacceptable, the statement said.

The statement said the center belongs to the UN and enjoys protection under the privileges and immunities granted to the UN in accordance with international law, stressing the importance of fully respecting its inviolability.

The center is a long-standing vocational training facility that has been serving Palestinian refugees for more than seven decades, with thousands of them graduating and going on to contribute to labor markets both regionally and globally, the statement noted.

The agency recalled that it would unflinchingly insist on protecting its buildings, staffers and operations, as well as respecting the privileges granted to the UN under international law.

It called on the international community to spring into action immediately and decisively to protect this center and all other UN facilities in occupied East Jerusalem. (QNA)
