Singapore, August 25 (QNA) - The US dollar edged lower on Tuesday but remained broadly supported as investors assessed expanded US sanctions on Iran and efforts by the US Treasury to ease pressure on long-term government bond yields.
The euro rose 0.1% to $1.1668, hovering near a three-month high reached last week, while sterling gained 0.1% to $1.3639, approaching a six-month high.
The Canadian dollar was little changed at C$1.3844 per US dollar after falling 0.6% in the previous session, following Washington's threat to raise tariffs on Canadian goods after trade talks broke down.
The yen edged up to 159.21 per dollar after giving up most of the gains triggered by Japanese authorities' intervention, but remained well above its multi-decade low of around 164.
The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major currencies, slipped to 98.96 in Asian trading.
The New Zealand and Australian dollars each gained 0.1% ahead of the release of the Reserve Bank of Australia's minutes from its August policy meeting. They were last trading at $0.5965 and $0.7157, respectively. (QNA)
