FIVB U17 World Championship Doha 2026: Tunisia and Egypt Advance to Round of 16
Doha, August 23 (QNA) - Tunisia and Egypt secured their places in the Round of 16 at the FIVB U17 World Championship Doha 2026, with Tunisia finishing second in Group A on six points, while Egypt booked their place in the next round with four points, level with Turkiye in Group D.
Qatar concluded their group-stage campaign on Sunday with a 3-0 defeat to Tunisia, losing 15-25, 18-25 and 17-25 in the final round of Group A matches.
Qatar's debut appearance at the championship provided valuable experience for the young squad, which faced Venezuela, France and Tunisia during the group stage and gained important exposure to different volleyball styles.
In Group C, Brazil secured their third consecutive victory, defeating Argentina 3-0 (25-19, 25-15, 25-21) to move to eight points and take sole possession of top spot. Poland followed in second place on four points, with Argentina third on three points and Mexico fourth without a point.
In Group D, Egypt secured qualification for the Round of 16 after defeating Spain 3-2 in a thrilling encounter, winning 25-18, 21-25, 27-25, 19-25 and 15-10 to move to four points, level with Turkiye. Bulgaria lead the group with six points and had already secured their place in the next round in the previous round of matches, while Spain were eliminated from the competition.
In Group E, Iran maintained their impressive form with a third consecutive victory, defeating Chinese Taipei, bronze medallists at the previous edition, 3-0 (25-15, 25-21, 25-17). The result took Iran to nine points from three matches, maintaining a perfect record. Pakistan are second on three points, followed by Chinese Taipei on two and Algeria on one.
The Group D and Group E campaigns will conclude on Monday with Algeria facing Pakistan at the Women's Sports Hall in Aspire Zone, while Turkiye take on Bulgaria at Al Arabi Sports Club. Both matches will be played simultaneously.
The championship will continue with several final-round group-stage matches, including France against Venezuela, India against Romania, and Mexico against Poland. The results will determine the remaining qualification places and final group standings ahead of the Round of 16 and the knockout stage, culminating in the final scheduled for August 29. (QNA)
