Bratislava, August 23 (QNA) - Qatari skydiver Saleh Al Abidi clinched the gold medal in the Senior Individual category of the Accuracy Landing competition, concluding his participation in the 48th CISM World Military Parachuting Championship 2026, hosted by Slovakia from Aug. 14 to 23.
This feat followed robust contests over Lucenec Airport, with 128 competitors in the Senior Individual category representing 33 countries and vying for the top spots and medals.
Al Abidi topped the standings with six points, tying with Czech competitor Bonifac Hajek and Germany's Matthias Diemler, giving Qatar another feat at the military world championship.
HE Chairman of the Qatar Air Sports Committee and Commander of the Joint Special Forces, Maj. Gen. Mohammed bin Zayed Al Otaibi, said he is profoundly pleased with the achievement Al Abidi had made, emphasizing that this feat is a natural outgrowth of the infinite support the Qatari sports have been receiving from the judicious leadership.
Al Otaibi added that this participation was incredibly motivated by the ambition and doggedness to win the gold and hold the flag of the State of Qatar aloft on the stage in this global extravaganza.
The Qatari players had incredibly proved their outstanding capabilities to compete in front of the most prominent athletes, he underlined.
HE Secretary-General of the Qatar Air Sports Committee, Capt. Hazza Hamad Al Attiyah, affirmed that he is proud of this phenomenal feat, adding that what had been achieved was literally an outgrowth of the unwavering support and attention the team receives from the wise leadership.
The team's determination and resolve pulled off this success and hoisted the flag higher over Slovakia despite the strength of competition and high technical level at this tournament, Al Attiyah admitted.
He thanked all players for their phenomenal efforts throughout this participation and congratulated the champions on these tremendous feats.
Al Attiyah noted that the continuous presence on the coronation stages manifests the massive work the committee is undertaking to advance incredible players capable of achieving honorable results in various arenas.
Lt. Abdulaziz Abdullah Al Hajaji, Captain of Qatar's Accuracy Landing Team, said snatching this gold came following a powerful contest, noting that the team incredibly remained focused and this pulled off success to finish first.
Al Abidi, for his part, said he was profoundly glad for this tremendous feat, emphasizing that all players were incredibly united throughout the whole tournament, eying the title and turning this effort and conscientiousness into holding the flag aloft at this global arena.
