Moscow, August 23 (QNA) - The Russian Defense Ministry said Sunday that its troops conducted airstrikes targeting energy and transportation infrastructure supporting Ukrainian forces.
In a statement, the ministry added that its forces targeted five fuel and lubricant tanks and infrastructure facilities at the Port of Yuzhny in the Odesa region used for unloading and storing military cargo.
Units of Russia's "West" group of forces took over strategic forward defensive positions and lines and destroyed troops and equipment belonging to two mechanized brigades and an airborne brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the statement continued.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said his country proposed a truce with Russia to cease attacks on vessels that transport agricultural products via the Black Sea, adding that Moscow rebuffed the pitch because it wants assurances after its infrastructure had been attacked.
Over recent weeks, the two countries upped the ante and exchanged attacks on both infrastructure and energy facilities amid faltering US-led mediation efforts to reach a ceasefire and reopen the way for a return to the negotiating table. (QNA)
