Doha, August 22 (QNA) - Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) welcomed its incoming students to campus during its two-day Student Orientation Program held at Minaretein and Manufactury in Education City. Marking the beginning of the 2026-2027 academic year.
The orientation welcomed around 900 new students across HBKU's 51 programs, including 315 undergraduates and 576 graduates.
The cohort was acquainted with HBKU's interconnected and interdisciplinary learning environment designed to promote collaboration with a diverse network of scholars and innovators. The incoming set also includes over 300 Qataris, strengthening the university's track record of contributing to the country's national human development efforts.
The new academic year also marks the launch of the School of Education, further expanding the University's academic portfolio and strengthening its contribution to education and growing talent pipeline in Qatar and beyond. Additionally, the College of Science and Engineering also added two new programs: BSc in Artificial Intelligence and Data Engineering and Master of Science in Integrated Circuits and Intelligent Systems Design. Through future-focused degree programs and research, spanning artificial intelligence, sustainability, health, humanities, and Islamic studies, HBKU equips graduates with knowledge and capabilities to contribute to a rapidly evolving world.
University leadership and staff introduced campus life and set academic expectations. Representatives of HBKU's colleges and schools, including the College of Islamic Studies; College of Humanities and Social Sciences; College of Science and Engineering; College of Law; College of Health and Life Sciences; College of Public Policy; the School of Economics and Management; and the School of Education, highlighted the University's research facilities and support services.
Commenting on the orientation, Provost of HBKU, Dr. Prabhat Hajela, stated: "We are delighted to welcome our new students and equally pleased to welcome back those continuing their journey with us. As a forward-looking institution, HBKU remains committed to advancing education, research and innovation that create meaningful impact in Qatar and around the world. Our students are at the heart of this mission. Through a multidisciplinary and outcomes-focused approach to education, we aim to equip the next generation of leaders with the knowledge, skills and confidence to address complex challenges and shape a better future for the benefit of humanity."
This approach is supported by an academic framework that integrates flexible pathways, stackable credentials, and lifelong skill acquisition alongside traditional degree programs, preparing students to continuously adapt and thrive in a rapidly changing global workforce.
Vice President, Student Affairs at HBKU, Dr. Maryam Al Mannai, emphasized student development, stating: "This marks the beginning of another exciting year for our students and the continued growth of our University. We believe that student experience extends beyond the classroom, creating opportunities for students to build connections, explore new ideas, and engage with our diverse community within the Education City ecosystem. We encourage our students to be curious, collaborative, and purposeful in their pursuit of knowledge throughout their time at HBKU."
As the new academic year begins, the orientation reaffirms the University's continued commitment to advancing national research capabilities and cultivating leaders who drive meaningful change in Qatar and the world.
HBKU develops multidisciplinary academic programs and national research capabilities that drive collaboration with leading global institutions. The university is dedicated to equipping future leaders with an entrepreneurial mindset and advancing innovative solutions that create a positive global impact. (QNA)
