Spain Condemns Israeli Settlement Plans for E1 Project in West Bank
Madrid, August 21 (QNA) - Spain has condemned the Israeli settlement plans for the E1 project in the West Bank, which aims to separate East Jerusalem from the rest of the occupied West Bank, and called for its cancellation.
The Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed in a statement today that Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank violate international law and constitute an obstacle to peace and the two-state solution. It called on the Israeli government to reverse its decision and fulfill its international obligations.
The Ministry also urged the international community to assume its responsibility in promoting the two-state solution as the only way to achieve a just and lasting peace in the region.
Several countries have condemned the Israeli settlement plan in the West Bank and called for its immediate cessation due to its disastrous consequences for the lives of Palestinians and for security and peace in the entire Middle East region.
The E1 project is considered a dangerous Israeli settlement plan located between the settlements of Ma'ale Adumim and Pisgat Ze'ev in Area C, which is under Israeli control. It extends over an area of about 12 square kilometers between the towns of Anata, Al-Issawiya, Al-Za'im, Al-Eizariya and Abu Dis, between East Jerusalem and the settlement of Ma'ale Adumim. It aims to link the settlement to Jerusalem and isolate the city from its surroundings, thus dividing the West Bank into two parts and eliminating the possibility of establishing a contiguous Palestinian state.
