London, August 11 (QNA) - Liverpool officially announced today the signing of Uruguayan defender Ronald Araujo from Barcelona on a season-long loan.

In a statement on its official website, the club said the signing of Araujo will strengthen its defense for the new 2026-27 season, following the loss of several defenders, including Giovanni Leoni and Jeremy Jacquet through injury, and Konate following his departure from the club on a free.

The statement added that the player signed a one-season deal running until the summer of 2027, with the possibility of an extension subject to an agreement with his parent club.

Araujo, 27, who joined Barcelona in 2019, has been one of the club's key defenders. He featured in 24 of Barcelona's league matches last season as the club won the title.

Liverpool finished fifth in the Premier League last season, securing qualification for the 2026-27 UEFA Champions League. Their first match of the campaign will be away to Newcastle on Aug. 23. (QNA)
