Meta Launches New AI Model
Washington, August 10 (QNA) - Meta has launched a new open-weight artificial intelligence model called Muse Glimmer, allowing developers to download and modify it freely.
The model is small in size and can run locally on a personal computer or Mac using a single graphics card. It goes beyond simply executing instructions to perform more advanced tasks, including planning.
In connection with the launch, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg called on the US administration to ease restrictions on training data for open-source models, warning that such restrictions give foreign laboratories, particularly Chinese ones, significant competitive advantages. He said restricting access to foreign models was not the solution, arguing instead that American models should be supported so they can lead the global race.
Open-weight models provide developers with more flexible and lower-cost alternatives to closed systems that are tightly controlled by companies such as OpenAI, Anthropic and Google.
The move comes as Chinese companies such as Moonshot AI, with its Kimi K3 model, Alibaba's Qwen with Qwen 3.8-Max, and DeepSeek with DeepSeek-V4-Flash are at the forefront of the field, offering open models with performance that competes with some of the leading closed American systems. (QNA)
