Italy Pledges to Increase Defense Spending to Five Precent over Coming 10 Years
Rome, July 06 (QNA) - Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani announced that Italy is moving forward with plans to increase spending on defense and security to reach around 5 percent over the next ten years, a 2.8 percent rise.
This comes as Rome prepares to participate in the 2026 NATO Summit in Ankara Tuesday.
Speaking to the press, Tajani stressed that Europe must increase its defense spending, adding that a balance of power leads to more stable peace.
He also said that Italy is among the strongest supporters of a common European defense, describing it as the strong second pillar of NATO.
NATO heads of state and government will meet in Ankara for a two-day summit of major significance, taking place against the backdrop of numerous regional crises and global challenges and shifts, particularly in the areas of security and energy. (QNA)
