Geneva, July 06 (QNA) - Chairman of the Presidential Council of the State of Libya Dr. Mohamed Al Menfi met on Monday with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to discuss developments in Libya's political process and UN efforts to support a comprehensive, Libyan-led settlement aimed at preserving the country's unity, sovereignty, and institutional stability.

During the meeting, Al Menfi stressed that any sustainable political solution must be based on consensus among Libyan institutions and remain nationally owned, without exclusion or external interference that could undermine sovereignty. He said such an approach would ensure an implementable and legally sound settlement with strong institutional foundations to prevent renewed division.

For his part, Guterres reaffirmed the United Nations' support for Libyan efforts to reach a comprehensive political settlement and strengthen security and stability in Libya and the region.

Libya was due to hold presidential and parliamentary elections in December 2021, but the vote has been postponed indefinitely due to continued disagreements among political factions. (QNA)
