Egypt's President Stresses Need to Implement Gaza and Iran Ceasefire Agreements
Cairo, July 04 (QNA) - Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on Saturday stressed the importance of upholding the Sharm El-Sheikh Agreement on a ceasefire in Gaza, as well as the agreement ending hostilities between the United States and Iran.
He called for both agreements to be fully implemented and urged that any attempts to obstruct, circumvent, or undermine them be prevented.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Strategic Command Headquarters in Egypt's New Capital, El-Sisi said Egypt had made intensive efforts to halt the wars, contain escalation and spare lives. He expressed appreciation to U.S. President Donald Trump for his efforts, which he said led to the Sharm El-Sheikh Agreement to end the war in Gaza and subsequently to the agreement ending the war with Iran.
The Egyptian president said the only lasting solution to the Middle East's conflicts lies in reaching a comprehensive and just peace agreement that resolves the Palestinian issue through the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international legitimacy.
There can be no lasting peace, no genuine stability and no popular normalization without a just peace that ends the occupation, puts an end to injustice and aggression, restores rights to their rightful owners, provides security for all, offers the peoples of the region the opportunity to live in stability and prosperity, opens a new era of cooperation and development, and secures a better future that our peoples deserve, he said.
Separately, El-Sisi said Egypt has faced successive exceptional crises since 2011, culminating in the war in Gaza and, most recently, the war involving Iran. He said those crises had inflicted heavy losses, including more than $10 billion in lost revenue from the Suez Canal due to attacks on shipping in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. He also cited rising energy and food prices, supply chain disruptions and the influx of millions of displaced people into Egypt.
Regarding the inauguration of the Strategic Command Headquarters, El-Sisi said the facility represents a major advancement in Egypt's command-and-control and operational management capabilities. He said it features advanced technological infrastructure, secure communications systems and sophisticated intelligence collection and analysis capabilities, enabling the integration of leadership and executive levels into a unified framework that enhances precision and speeds decision-making and response.
