Houston, July 04 (QNA) - Morocco advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a 3-0 victory over Canada on Saturday at Houston Stadium in the opening match of the Round of 16.

Morocco continued its impressive tournament run after finishing second in Group C with seven points, earned through victories over Scotland and Haiti and a draw with Brazil. The Atlas Lions then eliminated the Netherlands on penalties in the Round of 32 after a 1-1 draw.

Azzedine Ounahi scored twice, in the 50th and 82nd minutes, while Soufiane Rahimi added a stoppage-time goal in the 98th minute to send Morocco into the quarterfinals.

With the victory, Morocco became the first team to secure a place in the quarterfinals, where it will face the winner of Saturday's Round of 16 match between France and Paraguay. (QNA)
