Ramallah, July 29 (QNA) - The Palestinian Prisoners Society revealed that the Israeli occupation authorities have detained more than 24,600 Palestinians in the West Bank, including Jerusalem, since Oct. 7, 2023.
In a statement Wednesday, the Society stressed that the detention policy has been marked by unprecedented escalation throughout this phase, warning that the occupation apparatus has turned detention into one of the more sophisticated collective vengeance and punishment tools against Palestinians.
The occupation authorities consistently target a wide spectrum of people and segments of society by leveraging a wider campaign intended to blunt the fabric of Palestinian society and its inherent indomitability components, the statement continued.
The statement further remarked that the unveiled detention toll is limited only to the West Bank and doesn't include detainees from the Gaza enclave, whose numbers are estimated in the thousands amid continued documentation and monitoring difficulties due to enforced disappearance, ongoing violations, and the harsh detention conditions they are subjected to.
It pointed out that the occupation authorities are currently holding around 9,400 Palestinian prisoners in more than 23 detention cells and interrogation centers, including 95 female prisoners and around 380 minor children.
The conditions of prisoners inside the occupation cells, the statement continued, are marked by an unprecedented deterioration and a disquieting situation amid the escalating and systematic torture policies, starvation, and deliberate medical neglect.
These acts, according to the statement, have resulted in the deaths of nearly 100 prisoners inside Israeli prisons since October 2023, creating a worrisome pattern that further imperils the situation of detainees. (QNA)
