Doha, July 03 (QNA) - Al Ahli SC announced today the appointment of Spanish coach Borja Jiménez as head coach of its first football team beginning with the 2026-27 season. The club did not disclose the length of the contract.

Jimenez, 41, managed Sporting Gijon in Spain's second division during the second half of last season before leaving the club at the end of the campaign. He has also previously coached several Spanish clubs, including CD Leganes and Deportivo de La Coruna.

Al Ahli finished the previous Qatar football league season in ninth place with 26 points, recording eight wins, two draws, and 12 defeats. The club was also eliminated from the Amir Cup in the Round of 16 after a 4-2 defeat to Umm Salal SC.

Al Ahli also enjoyed a successful campaign in the previous edition of the AFC Champions League Two, reaching the semifinals before being eliminated by Al Nassr FC. The club won one title last season, lifting the Challenge Cup in the third edition of the Qatar-UAE Super Cup after defeating Al Jazira Club 4-3 in a penalty shootout. (QNA)
