Arab League Praises Arab Sporting Scene, Calls for Increased Investment
Cairo, July 27 (QNA) - The Arab League expressed its pride in Arab athletes on the occasion of the Arab sports day. Marked annually on July 26, the League described Arab athletes as the cornerstone of sustainable development, effective promoters of public health, and a driving force for progress and prosperity across the Arab world.
In a statement on this occasion, it highlighted their role in fostering tolerance, belonging, and citizenship, in addition to building bridges and deepening ties among Arab peoples.
The League called for increased investment in the sporting sector, greater use of technological advancements to enhance athletic performance, encouraging active participation in sporting activities, and promoting sportsmanship and fair competition.
All this should advance the Arab sporting scene and make it more sustainable and capable of competing regionally and internationally, the Arab League added.
It also praised Arab states' efforts in boosting the Arab sporting scene, driven by Arab ministers of youth and sports' serious attention and continuous support.
The League also commended Arab states' national Olympic committees and sports federations' role in advancing sports, raising participation, discovering athletic talent, supporting women's sports, and enhancing school and university sports, all of which have contributed to advancing human development across the region.
The technical secretariat of the Council of Arab Ministers for Youth and Sports will organize Arab sports day celebrations, in cooperation with member states' ministries of youth and sports or their equivalents, in a manner suited to each country, the statement noted.
This will strengthen communication and facilitate the exchange of information and expertise across the Arab world, it added. (QNA)
