FIFA World Cup 2026: Qatar's Khamis Al Marri Named VAR Official for Final
New York, July 18 (QNA) - FIFA has appointed Qatar's Khamis Al Marri as a video assistant referee (VAR) for the FIFA World Cup 2026 final, scheduled for Sunday between Spain and Argentina at MetLife Stadium in New York, United States.
FIFA's Refereeing Committee had earlier announced the crew for the World Cup final, with Slovenia's Slavko Vincic set to referee the match, assisted by his fellow Slovenians Tomaz Klancnik and Andraz Kovacic.
Jordan's Adham Makhadmeh will serve as the fourth official for the final, while his compatriot Mohammad Al Kalaf will serve as the reserve assistant referee.
Vincic, the referee for the World Cup final, is regarded as one of the game's most experienced officials, having overseen some of the biggest matches in European and international football.
He officiated at UEFA Euro 2020 before taking charge of the 2022 UEFA Europa League final between Germany's Eintracht Frankfurt and Scotland's Rangers.
Two years later, he refereed the 2024 UEFA Champions League final between Germany's Borussia Dortmund and Spain's Real Madrid.
He also officiated at UEFA Euro 2024, taking charge of several matches, including the semifinal between France and Spain.
The Slovenian is appearing at the FIFA World Cup for the second time, having also officiated two matches at the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
At the current tournament, Vincic has officiated the Brazil-Morocco and Jordan-Algeria group-stage matches, followed by the Mexico-Ecuador Round of 32 match. (QNA)
