Riyadh, June 08 (QNA) -The Saudi Ministry of Defense announced that a ballistic missile launched from Yemen was originally headed toward a regional country but failed and deviated from its trajectory due to technical reasons.

Saudi Ministry of Defense spokesperson Major General Turki Al Maliki said, according to the Saudi Press Agency, that further to an earlier statement regarding the launch of a ballistic missile from Yemen and its disappearance near the border, the results of investigations and technical review showed that the missile had been launched toward a regional country.

He added that, due to technical reasons related to the missile, it malfunctioned and deviated from its intended path, resulting in inaccurate indications of its target, before falling in an uninhabited area near the Saudi-Yemeni border.

Al Maliki had previously denied reports circulating about an attack on Prince Sultan Air Base in Al Kharj Governorate, stating that the activation of sirens in Al Kharj earlier in the day was a precautionary measure following the launch of a ballistic missile from Yemen that disappeared near the border.
