Mogadishu, June 07 (QNA) - The Somali military declared on Sunday that it had pulled off a successful operation to take down multiple strongholds used by the Al Qaeda-affiliated Al Shabaab movement in the country's south.

The Special Operations Forces (SOF) conducted a military operation targeting hideouts used by operatives of the movement in several areas of the Lower Shabelle Region, the military said in a statement.

It added that it had successfully destroyed multiple sites.

For more than a decade, Somali forces have been battling Al Shabaab, which has carried out numerous offensives that have claimed the lives of hundreds of civilians and security personnel. (QNA)
