2026 FIFA World Cup: Qatar Goalkeeper Abu Nada Says Team Are Primed to Perform at Their Best
Doha, June 07 (QNA) - Qatar goalkeeper Mahmoud Abu Nada said all of his teammates are ready to perform at their best during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico from June 11 to July 19.
Speaking in a video interview released by the Qatar Football Association (QFA) on Sunday, Abu Nada said qualifying for the World Cup finals for the first time through the qualification process was an incredible feeling.
He added that the fans played a pivotal role in helping the team secure qualification during the Asian playoff matches last October, providing stalwart support throughout the campaign.
The objective of participating in the upcoming World Cup is to deliver a commendable performance and project an image that reflects the incredible development of Qatari football, with the aim of delighting the fans, who look to their national team as a source of pride, Abu Nada highlighted.
Abu Nada pointed out that representing the national team is a source of pride for any player, noting that he still remembers the moment he was selected for the first time to represent Qatar in 2020. Since that moment, he has always sought to give his utmost in every match.
Abu Nada also heaped praise on the role of the national team's coaching staff, led by Spanish coach Julen Lopetegui, stressing that Lopetegui exerts a substantial effort to push the players to perform at their best in training sessions and matches.
The coach motivates all squad members to ensure they project the desired image, he said, emphasizing that what drives footballers to perform at their best is the support of the fans, who played a significant role during the playoff matches, particularly in the decisive encounter against the United Arab Emirates.
The spectators had a profound impact on the course of the match through their stalwart backing, support, and encouragement in the stands, Abu Nada said, sharing that he looks forward to having them at the World Cup finals.
The Qatari team continue their preparations to participate in the tournament as the clock ticks down to its start. Qatar will open their campaign against Switzerland on Saturday in San Francisco before traveling to Vancouver to face Canada on June 18.
The team will then conclude their group-stage schedule against Bosnia and Herzegovina in Seattle on June 24. (QNA)
