2026 World Cup: Czech Coach Resigns After Tournament Exit
Prague, June 29 (QNA) - The Czech Football Association announced on Monday that Miroslav Koubek, head coach of the national team, has resigned following the team's elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, being held in the United States, Canada and Mexico, and scheduled to run until July 19.
In a statement posted on its social media accounts, the association said Koubek, 74, stepped down by mutual agreement after both sides had agreed to end their cooperation if the team failed to qualify for the Round of 32, which it did not.
The Czech Republic collected just one point in Group A, drawing with South Africa before losing 2-1 to South Korea and 3-0 to Mexico to exit the tournament.
Koubek had guided the Czech Republic back to the World Cup after a 20-year absence by securing qualification through the European playoffs. The team's previous World Cup appearance came at the 2006 tournament in Germany. (QNA)
