Somali Military Airstrikes Kill 30 Al-Shabaab Operatives in Southeastern Country
Mogadishu, June 27 (QNA) - The Somali military conducted a flurry of airstrikes in lockstep with its international partners that hit multiple towns in the Middle Shabelle region in southeastern Somalia.
In a statement on Saturday, the Somali Ministry of Defense said the strikes took out 30 Al-Shabaab operatives, affiliated with Al-Qaida, after knocking out their hideouts in the areas of Gayfo, Ruun Idiris, and Cali Gaduud in the Middle Shabelle Governorate.
These strongholds, the statement added, had been used as centers for planning and training, in addition to storing weapons, ammunition, and military equipment.
The Somali Ministry emphasized that these multi-day strikes destroyed two vehicles and three motorcycles, along with quantities of weapons and ammunition caches, as well as military and logistical gear the movement had been using for planning and executing its operations.
That said, the ministry further noted that the military operations against the remnants of this movement will move full steam ahead across all hideouts until operatives are thoroughly taken out and security and stability are consolidated, as well as the security and safety of citizens throughout the country.
