Doha, June 25 (QNA) - The Ministry of Interior, represented by the General Directorate of Drug Enforcement, today launched an awareness exhibition marking the International Day Against Drug Abuse, held this year under the theme "An Aware Community... A Safe Nation".
The event coincides with the Arab and GCC Weeks for Drug Prevention and features the participation of several Ministry departments and relevant entities.
The exhibition was inaugurated by MOI's Assistant Director General of Drug Enforcement Colonel Tariq Ali Al Malki, in the presence of department directors, officers, officials, and representatives of participating entities.
Featuring educational and awareness booths highlighting the dangers of drugs, methods of prevention, and their harmful effects on individuals, families, and society, the exhibition aims to promote preventive awareness, highlight the State's anti-drug efforts, and strengthen community partnership in combating drug abuse. It will run until June 28.
Participating entities include the General Directorate of Traffic, the General Directorate of Coasts and Borders Security, the Community Police Department, the Penal and Correctional Institutions Department, the Juvenile Police Department, the Medical Services Department, as well as the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs, the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, the General Authority of Customs, Hamad Bin Khalifa University, the Behavioral Healthcare Center, and Naufar Center.
On this occasion, Director General of Drug Enforcement Brigadier Rashid Saree Al Kaabi said that marking the International Day Against Drug Abuse and the Arab Week for Drug Prevention underscores the importance of raising awareness about a threat that endangers the future of young people.
He stressed that combating drugs is a shared societal responsibility requiring collective efforts, noting that prevention begins with awareness, strengthening values among young people, and providing a supportive environment that protects them from addiction.
He added that the General Directorate of Drug Enforcement continues to implement awareness programs in cooperation with relevant entities to enhance public awareness, particularly among youth.
For his part, Director of the Studies and International Affairs Department at the General Directorate of Drug Enforcement Major Nasser Zayed Al Shahwani highlighted the Directorate's efforts to raise community awareness about the dangers of drugs.
He noted that its awareness programs are modern, technology-driven, and tailored to different age groups.
He added that the Directorate's efforts focus on personal development, life skills, adherence to religious and moral values, and encouraging families to foster trust with their children, monitor their activities, and help them develop the ability to reject behaviors that could lead to drug abuse.
Meanwhile, Head of the Education and Awareness Section Captain Abdullah Qassim Askar said that the Directorate's awareness programs target all segments of society.
These include student awareness initiatives for schools, universities, and institutes in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education; summer activities programs in partnership with the Ministry of Sports and Youth; initiatives targeting military and security personnel, civil sector employees, and seasonal expatriate workers; as well as mobile exhibitions in shopping malls and other awareness activities.
He stressed the importance of integrating efforts to protect society and enhance awareness of drug-related risks, noting that community security can only be achieved through collective action and a shared commitment to prevention and its positive impact on individuals, families, and society. (QNA)
